Hello Dear Reader, I am overjoyed that we have found each other! Please allow me to introduce myself.
I am Flint and Steal. Student of history, aspiring writer, and avid outdoor adventurer. Take a seat around my fire and let’s start at the beginning.
1. Why This, Why Now
I have been positively plagued by the way history has been portrayed in both the academic world and the world outside of it. It is portrayed as dry, decrepit, and depressing on a good day. I have decided that this simply will not do. So, I have made it my personal mission to help change the status quo. However, I cannot do this alone. With your enlisted help, we can change the way that history is viewed in the modern era and make some memories along the way.
2. Taking History into Our Own Hands
You must know that this is not just about starting another newsletter but about starting a community. This is your cordial invitation to explore the secrets of antiquity with me and the rest of the folks gathered here. However, if you accept this invitation, dear reader, you must understand that we will be storming the gates! This will not just be a passive newsletter, this will be a community where knowledge is to be exchanged and opinions are to be heard. You will not only be subscribing to another Substack but to my thinking. Whether or not that is something to be enthusiastic about, remains another mystery, but one that I suspect we will solve together.
3. What You Can Expect
Now, dear reader, I will tell you what you can expect of me. I will be planning on completing a monthly newsletter detailing an event in antiquity that I find interesting or instrumental in the development of mankind. Naturally, the amount of research that goes into my publications can be immense. Let me be clear, I am in no way complaining, simply stating that I will do my best to adhere to my promise of completing my monthly publication (bimonthly for paid subscribers) in a timely manner.
Free subscribers and paid subscribers alike will have the opportunity to read my works, share, comment and discuss the event in detail. I encourage all discourse to further the opportunity to learn and change the dry, decrepit, and depressing way that history is currently viewed.
A paid subscription can give you access to the following:
1 extra newsletter per month detailing an event in history that continues to send reverberations throughout humanity.
A list of my favorite sources that I greatly encourage you to visit. I am not the only one trying to change the perception of how our favorite events are viewed.
Access to me, my writing process, and the opportunity to suggest events yourself! I want to hear about your favorite events and what you would like me to cover. There is no shortage of events to choose from and there is no event too big or too small.
Please know all support is greatly appreciated.
4. Until Next Time
Well, dear reader, it seems our time has come to an end, although only momentarily. Stay tuned for the first official publication of Flint and Steal and as always, I encourage you to comment, share, subscribe, and follow me on Twitter, to stay up to date on all publications. Until next we meet.
